A faulty capacitor (as I found out too late} does NOT need to be replaced. All you have to do is remove the old one. The part was fitted in sewing machines of the 1940s and 1950s to prevent interference with television reception; that is its sole function and the machine will run perfectly well without it. Unless you are watching an analog TV {which doesn't exist any more} at the same time as running your sewing machine, you do not need to replace the part. If your machine has the classic symptoms of a faulty capacitor {eg running at top speed without the foot pedal being depressed} all you need to do is open the foot pedal unit, loosen a couple of screws and remove the capacitor. Instructions are pretty easy to find online. I only wish I had looked for replacement instructions before wasting my money on a completely unnecessary item.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
