About this product

Product Information

There is no knowing what lies in a man's heart. On a trip to buy ponies, Frank Ross is killed by one of his own workers. Tom Chaney shoots him down in the street for a horse, USD150 cash, and two Californian gold pieces. Ross's unusually mature and single-minded fourteen-year-old daughter Mattie travels to claim his body, and finds that the authorities are doing nothing to find Chaney. Then she hears of Rooster - a man, she's told, who has grit - and convinces him to join her in a quest into dark, dangerous Indian territory to hunt Chaney down and avenge her father's murder.

  • True grit was demonstrated by one of the men whom the girl employed to help her in her quest but could also describe the spirit of the girl herself

An enjoyable story about a very plucky 14 year old girl in 1890 America who wants to avenge the murder of her father by finding the man who shot him. Created the atmosphere of the time very well.

  • Gripping, witty, with "true grit." Does what is says on the tin!

Witty dialogue and a strong narrative voice. You feel like Mattie Ross is someone you know, with her opinions, observations (sometimes remarkably true), and half-remembered quotes thrown in as the adventure goes along. Gripping tale, well told, with a distinct flavour.

  • Fantastic book

The book arrived in good condition, and was exactly as described. The story is a real classic, I loved both movies and was interested in seeing what the book was like. Absolutely brilliant, and I finished in a couple of days despite not being an avid reader of fiction. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who knows the story or not.
