My children have learnt real baking from this book which contains many of our now favourite family recipes. When the book was falling apart, I had to buy another copy of it! The step by step tutorials teach my children to bake properly, it's teaching them the techniques of most types of baked goods, from biscuits and pastries to sponges, cheese cakes and even choux buns. My children laugh when people talk about the difficulty of baking choux pastry! I take my hat off to Fiona Patchett: She trusts children to be competent.

The book is good for a young cook . The content is interesting and it is well illustrated and easy to follow. The only drawback with this particular copy is that the frontispiece has been written in by the previous owner. We shall cover it with a photo before giving it to our granddaughter.
