About this product

Product Information

`The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat is populated by a cast as strange as that of the most fantastic fiction. The subject of this strange and wonderful book is what happens when things go wrong with parts of the brain most of us don't know exist . . . Dr Sacks shows the awesome powers of our mind and just how delicately balanced they have to be' Sunday Times `Who is this book for? Who is it not for? It is for everybody who has felt from time to time that certain twinge of self-identity and sensed how easily, at any moment, one might lose it' The Times `This is, in the best sense, a serious book. It is, indeed, a wonderful book, by which I mean not only that it is excellent (which it is) but also that it is full of wonder, wonders and wondering. He brings to these often unhappy people understanding, sympathy and respect. Sacks is always learning from his patients, marvelling at them, widening his own understanding and ours' Punch

  • Most favourable review

    Great

Brilliant book full of interesting anecdotes and analysis of how the brain works. Only downside is the language around is a bit dated sometimes, but it was written in the 80s so keep that in mind.

  • Most critical review

    Crazy!

Curious tales, written by an expert, not a novelist. If you want to read these tales to learn a bit about how peoples' brains can break down and the effect on the individual,, then it is a good read. But if you don't want to know about the subject, then don't waste your time. It is a text book, not a novello.

  • Great read

Great book, helps you have a great understanding of how the brain works, why people become so confused, loved reading the different patient stories and how they were analysed .

  • Fascinating neurological conditions explained

Fascinating insight into many neurological conditions . There is a little bit of medical terminology explaining how the different parts of the brain are affected . followed by case studies , including tourette’s , Parkinson’s , facial blindness , memory loss and memories long forgotten reoccurring .

  • I book worth having a reserve copy of...

I'd owned the book some years ago and must have lent it to someone and can't now find it amongst my collection - so I thought to play safe and order another - condition fine - perfect to lend out unashamedly to others if I don't somehow choose to recommend it rather than lend it again...
