The archive began during the Blitz as Barrow faced some of its darkest days. Wartime censorship prevented publication of the Evening Mail's pictures - many of them are seen here for the first time. Other pictures show Barrow's long-vanished theatres and cinemas and the factories which were once a familiar sight but have been swept away in a changing and developing world. From the days of glass negatives to the advent of digital camera technology the Evening Mail's photographers have been there to record Barrow's triumphs and its disasters.
