A Great guide still for any Linux newbie coming from windows
Although it is almost 10 years since this was written and there are references to XP in it, the information inside is valuable to a newbie coming to Linux for the first time. It does use Ubuntu which is one of the best known of the Linux Distributions, but that doesn't matter, because even for a Linux Mint user like myself there are similarities.
This is well written, easy to follow with plenty of pictures. It doesn't get all tecky, but explains in every day words what you need to know and the differences between Linux and Windows. I don't know about other OSs like Apple, but even if you have them this is still a good guide to have if switching.
While there are more complicated books about, I found this far easy to read and to follow than Linux for Dummies. It is so easy when switching to want to know everything, this book just tells you enough to get going and perhaps when you are more experienced get another with greater depth.
To quote the famous advertisement, this does exactly what it says on the cover, teaches you Linux in easy steps and I would recommend it to everyone
As a beginner in linux it tells me what I want to know in easy to understand stages. It is a well presented book for people who want to start using Linux.
