  • The Railway Detective Stories

From the first book 'The Railway Detective', Edward Marston develops each of the main characters and you begin to paint picture in your own mind of how they look and act. There are several storylines that run from the start of each book, but the main story in each one, seldom ends in the way you might have begun to imagine two thirds of the way through. I find the lack of, extreme violence, graphic description of sexual acts and the absence of obscene language, refreshing. My only criticism is the need to repeat in each book the history of events told in earlier books, but this could be thought necessary if one begins reading the series at the 2nd,3rd,4th, etc. book rather that from page one of the first book in the series. I shall feel sad when I eventually come to the bottom of the last page in the last book about all the players in these tales.

  • Deserves to be better known

I can't put these books down. I started off with Marston's Elizabethan Nick Bracewell series - I have read most of those. Then, by chance, I discovered a boxed set of the first few Railway Detective series by the same author. I enjoy the historical settings and they are easy to read. I have passed books on to freinds and they all enjoy them too.

  • Another Great read

Just another story from my favourite author that keeps me glued to my seat and another great reason not to put the Tv on. As the story line starts with a short chapter they begin to lengthen with each additional chapter until the climax of the story and the arrest of the murder. I have over 30 books from this author and not one has disappointed me.
