Essential for ESOL learners
The Longman Photo Dictionary is an essential accessory for ESOL learners, and a useful tool to have in an ESOL classroom for students to look at. It covers all essential topics and has excellent photos so that the learner understands the words without need for translation. The range of vocabulary is wide, some things also have the American word, but the English word is always written first, and the American word is followed by "AmE". The road signs are all British. There is a good variety in the clothing section, showing most kinds of garments likely to be worn by immigrants to the UK, and which the immigrants themselves want to be able to say in English. The pictures of food are of extremely high quality, which is necessary because many ESOL learners will not be familiar with some British food.
