Steambot Chronicles is a fantastic game, the graphics were amazing for it's time and the roleplaying elements and combat was really fun and entertaining, if anybody is looking to buy this game you definitely should! I hope someday we get a sequel or a remake.

Irem brought us legendary arcade titles like Dragon Breed and R Type, they really pulled out all the stops with this absolute stormer of a game. There are elements of so many game genres tied into this title, creating an elusive and twist filled plot, which renders the player at the mercy of good and evil ethics that you may or may not choose to adhere to. I played this game as the good guy, but found this game to suddenly turn into an almost GTA style experience when turning evil and unethical. That may seem nothing new now, but I found this game to weave through that plot engine in thought provoking way without making it to obvious, or ruining any surprises. Basically you can become a nasty piece of work or an overly polished saint, both are equally hilarious character bases, nice Vanilla is way to smarmy, and evil Vanilla is so inappropriate and absurd that you are urged to be more evil... Very GTA type role can easily be attained, although people do start getting rather upset at your presence if you are overly evil. The controls are crazy double lever control method is used for driving the Trot mobiles, also a unique and pioneering system. Using both sticks as levers, purposely invokes a primitive mechanical control method as compared with the rest of the typical mech genres slick tendencies. At first you may think "I can't control this thing" but Bumpy Trot is by far the easiest to get the hang of once you get your head around the caterpillar track style control method. It's actually easier to control than the likes of certain point and shoot games of the last 20 years. First person view makes it so unnerving when you can't tell what direction certain projectiles or hits are coming from, so realistically the sound is the only give away, often only after impact, will you realise you're getting popped at from the side or rear, which makes the third person or sand box view work in your favour, again I can't help but find it reminiscent of the GTA series for the very exact same reasons. So is this turning it the mech GTA review of Steambot Chronicles, not quite as there is a lot more to this game than you'd expect. I won't spill the beans about certain events or the multi destined and poignant plot. There's so much I can say is to this game's credit, in fact like many others, I believe this to be the finest hour of Irem proud and formidable history. Bumpy Trot has to be the pinnacle of all Irem innovative back catalog of classic games. Only thing missing from this game, is it's long awaited sequel Bumpy Trot 2. If this title is further developed by the creator, who's had it in the pipeline for 10 years. If ever released, there will be a new and refreshingly different story, who can tell what may surface. For now though, Steambot Chronicles has it made, only you know how good it is when playing this work of genius, as I have to say this is a revolutionary step in the video game industry, that is until a day when Roman Ponkotsu Bumpy Trot 2 comes to fruition. Steambot Chronicles is far better than it competitors, as clearly with the sheer quality of this game, there is no contest.Read full review
