In the beginning of Sonic DX for GameCube, players take on the persona of Sonic the Hedgehog. Additional franchise characters such as Tails, Knuckles, Amy, E-102, and Big the Cat can be unlocked and played as the player progresses through Sonic Adventure DX. In all, Sonic Adventure DX: Director’s Cut for Nintendo GameCube offers 50 missions in 30 levels. Players must play each of the additional characters through their respective missions if they wish to reach the final level of Sonic DX for GameCube and declare themselves the game champions. Throughout Sonic Adventure DX, players acquire additional gear by gathering Sonic emblems, which can be achieved by completing tasks or by searching under and behind items while in mission mode.
