SynopsisThis guide covers the most common problem behaviours in horses. It seeks to provide an understanding of the reasons behind the behaviours and then develop training solutions. The training solutions offered are based on a love and respect for the horse., Few things in this world are more frustrating to horse owners than a horse behaving badly. It is diificult not to take it personally when this creature we take care of, often love, and certainly pay the bills on, seemingly think up ways to frustrate our human goals.Bad behaviors can range from mildly irritating all the way to down-right dangerous, and it is often nothing short of astonishing what a horse can think up as a way of avoiding whatever it is the human wants to do.But there is help! In this book, Dr. Jim and his wife and partner, Lynda, offer real training solutions to problem equine behaviors. Based on a thorough understanding of horse behavior and with deep love and respect for the horse, the McCalls offer more than one possible solution to some of the most common equine behavior problems, disobedience such as running away, rearing, spooking, cribbing and more. You will learn how to interpret horse behavior and to understand the "why" behind the problem, looking at it from the horse's point of view. You will even learn to speak "horse", and to use methods the horse understands in correcting problem behaviors. And perhaps best yet, through the process of training out a bad behavior, you will become closer to your equine partner, developing a bond that most only dream about.
Good reference book on working with horses & their problems.
Great book on horse problem solving, makes me want to meet these people & learn from them.
The examples are great & useful in helping to deal with a problem horse, or solve some
horse problems. Very layman in terms & in explanations. Have already tired a few of the
suggestions & will keep working on help myself & my horse understand each other.
I do appreciate the phycology behind working with & owning horses. Will be my bible for now.
Handy book for solving some often encountered horse problems
Doesn't cover everything in detail, but has handy advice for beginners (and even some more advanced riders). Could use a bit more content on how to handle ground problems, but then it would be a much longer book!
