The speed on this Western Digital 500 GB Hard Drive easily rivals and in many cases outperforms desktop units. A 7,200-RPM disk speed and 16 MB cache provides seek times of 12 ms and an average latency of 4.2 ms. The internal hard drive was tested on a multitude of systems and platforms to ensure its compatibility. In addition, the WhisperDrive technology uses seek algorithms specifically formatted to reduce noise. This Western Digital 500 GB Hard Drive is intended for use in notebooks, digital media players, and other portable devices that can accept 63.5-mm (2.5-inch) form factor drives. The ShockGuard protects the moving parts and platters in the Western Digital Scorpio Black to help avoid damage. For further avoidance, SecurePark keeps the recording heads off the disk while off, spinning up, and spinning down to keep the heads from touching the disk surface.
