Being that they have become old processors there is a huge drop in prices which allow possessors of old laptops (as me) to make an important upgrade. In my case from an Intel i-3 330M (dual core, low freq) to the i-7 820QM (Quad-core, higher freq, better memory). This, paired with an SSD, a RAM memory upgrade (around 100 pounds total) have made my computer much more faster and comfortable to work with, and I hope it will last for a few more years.

The Intel I7-720qm may seem quite an archeological piece at our days (2013), but it's much more than that. I'm mostly an Apple user, but I work also on a Pc - a low/middle class Acer 7741g that was sold originally with an I3-380, 4gb of ram and a 5200rpm hard disk. I use it with Photoshop, and compared to an Apple...there is no comparison, point. Thus I've ve upgraded almost everything - adding also a useless 4 gb of Turbo-memory chip - and now it works. I can't say it runs, but it had a stunning improvement in speed and - on another hand - switching to this processor made the battery last longer and the computer now is usually 10° cooler than with the i3 - that was locked at a speed of 2.53, while i7 is usually running slowly. So, if you want to revitalize a notebook, but it since it affects not only the speed performance, but also your laptop comes quieter, cooler, a perfect desktop replacement.Read full review
