Bukowski,...Miss ya baby
If you love Bukowski [and what fan of sharp, succinct, witty writing doesn't], you've probably read at least some of the stories in this book. Originally taken from publications he wrote for in the 60's such as 'Open City', these often very short stories still contain the punch & humour that make them just as enjoyable today as 50 years ago. Sure, a host of imitators have come and gone since but Buk was unique. Its the taut simplicity of his observations, & his insight into the farcical machinations of the world, that even at their most caustic & ribald, always contain a level of humanity pathos & a little comedy. His ability to induce the reader to see and feel through his eyes made you want to be 'Buk the tough guy', & 'Buk the intellectual', or at least believe a great part of his energy resides somewhere in yourself. I for one miss the hell out of the guy & the planets just a wee bit less of a place without his love, scorn, derision & beautiful perception! If you've ever felt at odds with your boss, neighbour or maybe everything in general, beg borrow or steal one of his books, any one,.. it could change your life.
