If you will excuse the pun, Pocket Fighter is the hidden gem in the Capcom series of fighters. Taking characters from the Street Fighter and Dark Stalkers games and shrinking them down to cutesy size, Capcom crafted a technical and often hilarious fighting game that both newbies and experts will get some enjoyment out of. The game is controlled using 3 main attack buttons which can also be added to directional maneuvers to create special moves (i.e. Hadoukens etc.) these can be powered up with the addition of gems which you collect when your opponent is attacked. This adds a different level of strategy to this game as opposed to the aforementioned fighters. Rewarding offensive speedy fighting is something often missed in Capcom fighters but Pocket Fighter managed to find a way to implement it perfectly. The game is filled with hilarious references to the whole of the Capcom world. From Felicia's Megaman outfit to Breath of Fire III characters hanging out in the background of maps. Even the gems are a direct reference to Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. Overall Pocket Fighter is a fantastic game that many overlooked at the time but has aged incredibly well.Read full review
