McCall Smith has a unique style, totally related to. the African Venue; Botswana, where the series is based Written in a style using terminology totally appropriate to have some experience of this part of the world. But, still amusing to many English speakers who have never left the UK. Some of the expressions and phrases will be new to some readers of 30 years of age, or less. But still smiles are felt by the reader. A great easy read. Our copies of this series are well read by friends and family aged from 25 to 75. It can be a difficult book to put down, so it is good that there are a good number of books in the series

This book is "so Precious", and her invariable authority in matters of behaviour and misbehaviour are searching and concise - it is a lovely gentle book full of humour and human failings and achievements. Mma Makutsi's shoes have found a voice, which has to be wonderful, especially as she listens to what they say! Botswana the beautiful.
I had the rest of the series preceding this book and I was not disappointed. An excellent book and I now look forward to reading the next book in the series.
