This is one of those legendary lens and in my brief experience with the lens it has proven its excellence. The close up imiges have a beautiful color balance and sharpness that I have not found with my other macro lens. I have been using it on a digital platform and film based. I think that I prefer the film based since my digital camera has a cropped senser. I use the lens in my nature photography and portriate photography. It has performed very well in both venues but I particularly like using it for nature pictures in the macro mode. Here one of the negatives comes out. It is a really heavy lens!! The only lens that I have that is heavier is my 560mm 6.8 telephoto lens!! At the same time it is beautifully constructed and this is one of the reasons that it is seldom sold for a lower price. It is also a very desirable lens for that reason. Very strong construction. Excellent mechanicals and because of its weight it is a very steady lens. I have had it only one month but I find that it is on my cameras allot and one of my favorate lens now.Read full review
This lens is a benchmark against which all other macro lenses should be measured. It has exceptional performance right up to infinity. I use it with the Nikon D3x. I have Nikon and Hasselblad Zeiss Macro lenses old and new, and the Leica shines especially into the corners of the frame. The 1:2 magnification I find very adequate. The lenses performance peaks at f4 for center sharpness, and that is not to say that it's performance at f2.8 is not exemplary. The focusing throw is little too much but extremely smooth and precise even though a little on the hard side. But the beauty of this lens is not just in it's optics, bokeh and color but in it's rock solid precision construction. The Nikon 105/2.8 macro is OK in it's performance but it feels like you are holding an empty can of beans. The Leica 100 Apo is both a pleasure to hold and behold.Read full review
Wow, a vintage lens that is sharper than most modern equivalents stopped down and pure magic wide open. And its built like a tank. Earlier samples render gorgeous vintage colors, whereas later ones maintain that Leica magic but in a more modern color palette. Like most great lenses, its challenging to get the most out of it but once you do its well worth the time and patience.

I enjoy using this lens which is converted to Nikon F mount. Manual operation in Macro photography works just fine. The optical- and image qualities are very much to my taste. And my Nikon camera has the possibilities build-in to deal with all kinds of lenses, as long as the lenses can be mounted, it works great.
Sharpist lens and best color lens. Best color and you can get best result on macro color is clear and rich much better than any Nikon and canon L lens. This is best lens in the world.
