Product Information
With its wide angle view from 102.4 degrees it can produce striking images with exaggerated perspective. The maximum aperture of F3.5 is ideal for indoor shooting and it enables photographers to emphasize the subject. Two ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass elements and a SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass element provide excellent correction of color aberration. Four aspherical lenses provide correction for distortion and allow compact and lightweight construction. The super multi-layer coating reduces flare and ghosting. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. The incorporation of HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) ensures a quiet and high-speed auto focus as well as full-time manual focusing capability. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 9.4 inches (24cm) throughout the entire zoom range and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.6. The lens design incorporates an inner focusing system which eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for using the petal-type hood and polarizing filter. Big, solid, quite expensive piece of kit, but worth it.
Not cheap, and a big piece of glass relative to the size of my DSLR (Nikon D3300), but it is great for interiors of buildings and also nice for landscapes. I can't see any disadvantage relative to a Nikon lens, while the big widest aperture (3.5 through the zoom length) is a great advantage relative to the Nikon version. super piece of glass
this is a fantastic wide angle lens. the field of view is amazing especially at 10mm. its silent and not as heavy as would be expected. the auto focus is quick and can be overridden if needed. there is no apparent sign of vignette at 10mm when lens hood is applied and the zoom itself is very smooth. if there was any complaint at all, it would be the filter thread, this is on the large size. I've been a professional photographer for 55 years - during this time I've been privileged to use some of the best equipment created. I bought this Sigma 10-20mm lens to give me greater flexibility with landscape photography. The build quality is exceptional. the resolution of the lens is superb - and the results are stunning. I intend using it for astrophotography later this month with my Nikon D300 - and expect good results. A versatile lens that enables you to control distortion when used carefully - I've even used it at the 20mm end for portraits - and it performs perfectly.
