About this product

Product Information

The AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300 mm f/4-5.6G is a portable telephoto zoom lens featuring Nikon quality optics, high-performance Nikon Super Integrated Coating and a rounded diaphragm opening, which makes out-of-focus elements appear more natural. This lens is designed with no aperture rings. With the G-type Nikkor lens, the aperture should be selected on the camera body for aperture-priority auto and manual exposure mode. The lens is fully compatible with the F5, F100, F80, F65, F60, F50, F-401-series, PRONEA 600i, PRONEA S and D1 cameras. The AF Zoom-Nikkor 70-300 mm f/4-5.6G lens represents a different level of operational ease for Nikon users - even first-time SLR users.

    A good solid lens

I have used this lens for just a handful of pictures so far. I'm having to get used to manual focussing again so I find the focussing ring a little unnatural to use as it is at the front of the lens. I would prefer it to be near the camera body. The zoom ring was a little stiff at first but it seems to be getting looser the more I use it. The images i have taken were both outdoor and indoor and I am pleased with the results given that I am using an entry level DSLR with a basic zoom lens. Overall, the lens is good value for money and if it wasn't for the slightly stiff zoom ring and position of the focus ring, I would have given it 5 stars.

Good lightweight unit, colour matches my D40 camera body

Shame it won't work on auto focus, but I knew that before purchase.

  • Bargain.

I bought this 70-300mm lens for my Nikon D600, it’s a lovely piece of kit well worth the money, focuses really well, like the solid feel of the lens, can see me using it for a long time.

  • Lightweight and decent performance

This is a consumer level lens from Nikon and as such shouldn't be compared with their higher spec professional glass. For the price it offers good performance and build quality and decent sharpness. At 200mm and beyond I'd recommend f/8 or f/11 for optimum sharpness. That's not a problem in good light and on a modern camera with good performance at higher ISO settings but don't expect much if the light is poor. Lack of VR is only an issue in poor light or if your camera doesn't perform well at higher ISO's. But if you need a lens with a bit of reach, can't afford professional glass or a prime lens, have only occasional use for it and don't want something heavy and bulky but do want a Nikon lens, then buy it. Just remember, it's durable if you take care of it but don't bash it around like a pro can do with his lenses. It's sharp enough up to around 150mm after which you need f/8 min and I found f/11 the optimum. It's good value for a lens with reach that you only use occasionally, if you need to use a long lens regularly buy a higher spec one.

  • Nice Reach For The Price

This lens is so handy and is always on one of my cameras it provides a very good sharp shot and is not too expensive. It is not too heavy if you like to use a hand grip and compares very well to the newer sigma 100/400 I have them both on my D3S body and the D300S. A great lens for the price today as they are traded in, but mine is certainly a keeper.

  • More natural photos of faces

Took a few hours to get to grips with this new lens. All my shots seemed out of focus once on my IMac until I realised it was because I wear glasses for distance. Once I’d adjusted the diopter settings I got some great photos. It’s good to photo faces of people who you don’t have to be near to get the detail. I do lots of photos at my sons sailing club and with my 18-55mm lens they notice when you’re taking a photo and go all shy. I’m getting some really natural shots now that they much prefer when the subject sees them.

  • Great mid range lens

Excellent range lens for further away shots. Great way works on most nikon cameras with auto focus.

  • medium weight lens and excellent value

It is indistinguishable from new, takes superb photos, and excellent value for money, it's not VR but using a faster shutter speed helps eliminate any camera shake

  • Good product with good price

This lens have a good quality, at 300mm need a tripod for good quality. The Focal ajustment is very good, but the zoom is a bit hard. But for the price, and for a 70-300mm i think it's very good.

  • Nikkor 70-300

Ok this is not the VR lens, it's a lot cheaper. But I'm no expert, and having taken about 250 shots with this lens I would have to say that for me (an amateur) it's more than adequate. The quality of the shots at all focal lengths is quite good, and the lens itself is very light. I'm happy with this lens, maybe if I was a pro I would want something more expensive, but for what I shoot this lens is good enough for me.
