this is a lot of lens for the money. however the image quality is a little soft, so i would not recommend this for pro's, who would probably go for the Canon L series anyway. The huge range though makes it ideal "walkabout" or travel lens (quite hefty though!) I have a canon 18-55 and 75-300 both IS, but i find i just keep this one on for every day use. The surprise is the excellent Optical Stabilization - quieter than my Canon, and always on (not just when shutter half pressed.) My 75-300 beats in sharpness at 250 zoom, but unless you're publishing, enlarging of cropping, its not really an issue.
So glad to have purchased this lens, it's really worth every shots. I have bought this for my husband and by using the lens, he was able to take pictures with better quality, particularly for taking pictures from a distance. Pictures come so clear and crisp. It is a lot cheaper than the branded ones. Great deal, too. Overall, this is one of the best!!!
Ok not the sharpest but excellent value with good quality shots

Perfect general lens. Exactly what i wanted and brilliant for the money. 18mm is good for wide angle shots whilst 200mm is better for closer images. Its good to have a wide angle/telephoto lens in one! If you're looking for your first lens, this is a good one to start off with.

This is a stunning piece of kit, Sigma really has created a true all purpose lens. The image stabilisation works brilliantly, the focus is quick and accurate and the zoom works smoothly. It is lightweight and compact when closed down, but it still feels solid enough to cope with the rigours of daily life. The 18-200mm badge is a bit of a stretch of the truth, Sigma has used the 1.6x APS sensor correction differently at both ends, at the short end the correction applies but at the long end it doesn't so in real terms when fitted to a Canon 300D it has the equivalent field of view of 28-200mm. That said this is still a very useful range, you never feel that you need to fit another lens and you never miss a shot fumbling in your bag. It has really good colour and contrast, but it is a little soft. The Softness is the compromise, but it is by no means a problem for 6x4 snaps, which is basically what this lens is all about, you get the shot at an acceptable quality. The same goes for the stabilisation, it is excellent, set ISO400 and you can shoot handheld in almost every situation. I run this lens with a 300D and a 1DS with 24-105L and 70-200L lenses. I get fantastic quality with the big equipment, but I get more shots with the Sigma, you just grab it, point and shoot and because it is light and cheap it is always lying around. If you want an all purpose travel lens, or like me you have kids that are always doing something cute then this is the one.Read full review
i bought the sigma 18-200mm OS DC lens as a replacement for my canon 24-105mm f4 L IS USM lens. I needed a lens that was slighter wider and with an extended zoom range over the canon. Ideally it would have an optical stabiliser similar to canons image stabiliser. The sigma 18-200mm seemed to fit the bill. its not a budget lens at £449 but there are a plentiful supply of used lens around for between £190 and £270. I got lucky and found a mint item, boxed with light useage for £190. for my work which is mainly photographing still life subjects, i found the lens to be just as sharp as the canon. its not as well made as a canon L series but for the money im well happy. have a look what you can buy for around £200 with optical stabilisation, and a 18-200mm range... ou wont find much to compete.
So good I have 2, one for each camera. The first was a replacement for my Son's Canon 18-135 IS which developed a fault. First and many more impressions were and are very good. Good range and unlike some other makes seems to be good at each extreme and mid range. Great picture quality with a Canon 450D, perhaps a little weighty but the quality makes up for this. I was so impressed i purchased a second for my 60D to augment my Canon 28-138 IS USM lens, which is an impressive lens. The results have been so good with the Sigma it has been on my camera ever since. Having started years ago with a Tamron 18-200 the Sigma is light years better and for a Hobby lens I know none better that I have come across. Both of mine were purchased as used and I have no regrets at all. If your looking for a mid range lens then this Sigma is the best. I might be putting my Canon lens up for sale now!!Read full review
