Bought it to replace my 5-year-old Nokia N95. Maybe I still will use it some day as a replacement, but not now. Hardware There's FM radio, but it doesn't work without wired headset. Wi-Fi and accelerometer are absent. CPU is a little bit slow, judging by response time. Case is very good, but some people complained about unreliable work of moving parts (e.g., sliding camera shield). It fits men much more than women and can be placed into N95 belt pouches, like Neri Karra etc. Software That's probably the worst piece of G800 - let's just say that instalation of Java applications is a whole saga, filled with hacking and tweaking. And this saga is neither oficially supported not approved by Samsung. Keyboard and typing Keypad layout is different from N95, so even with T9 off, typing is difficult at first. But the keypad itself is better, keys are more reliable (keypad is made from one thin piece of metal)and backlight usually lasts longer. Camera It's fair enough. Cover (sliding metal shield) is good, 3x optics moves inside the phone, xenon flash works much better than LED one. Camera gets ready to work in ~1.5 seconds after moving a slider. Most complaints I've seen are about colors and noise. Video is also worse than N95's VGA - only QVGA at the same 30fps. It's a pity since I've bought it as a cam with built-in phone. Please note that you won't get beautiful colors or really sharp contrast "out of the box", but it's quite possible to tune these camera settings later. Bluetooth In fact, I got G800 in hope that it supported separate Bluetooth A2DP and Handsfree profiles. Unfortunately, it does not (at least, not with my Nokia HS-12W). Interesting though, early firmware revisions of Nokia N95 supported this feature, and later did not. Maybe I should have checked earlier firmware for G800, too. Conclusion Nice addition to my collection of cameraphones with optical zoom, but little else. Most features I hoped to get moving don't work, at least, not as expected. However, can recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to make nice video or to run complicated programs and just needs a steady 5MP cameraphone with 3x optical zoom.Read full review

It's a very good Mobile Phone and Easy to use. It's an old model of samsung but it is very good product with primary camera 5 mp and it is very small and easy to handle and move around
Loved it. made up with e speedy delivery of the phone and it was just what i wanted as i have had the same phone before and wanted it for my mum as it was enough for her to use and it has a good camera on it.
I was looking to buy a new camera and a new phone for myself when I came across some articles about the Samsung G800 and I thought to myself that I could save a bit of cash by buying a 2-in-1 camera phone. Unlike any other phone that I have used before (I used to own a mobile phone shop, so I have played around with a few phones), I must say that the G800 surely deserves the name 'Camera Phone' because this is the first phone I have seen that comes with a proper camera. With a resolution of 2560х1920 pixels, xenon flash, 3x optical zoom, autofocus, face detection and QVGA video @ 30fps, I think that you will have to agree with me that the G800 really does have a professional camera built in. One thing that annoys me about camera phones is that when you are taking a picture, from the time you press the button to when the camera takes an image to save, the delay is often so long that the moment is usually gone (especially when it comes to taking pictures of hyper-active little children!). Not so, with the Samsung G800! It really does work exactly like a normal digital camera. I would have to say that this is probably what I love the most about the G800. To complement the camera, the G800 has a 256K colour, 240x320 pixel, 2.4" display to view the pictures on. Apart from the usual phone features, it also has a few other outstanding attributes such as bluetooth printing, stereo FM radio and mobile TV (subject to service provider restrictions). The G800 weighs just under 15g more than a Nokia N95 which it is superior to in most ways that I can think of. The N95 camera quality comes close but when you turn on the camera features of the G800, it really does have the N95 beat, hands down. The advantages that the N95 has are that it is quad band, has WLAN, a 16M colour display and an integrated GPS receiver. Size wise, it it a bit smaller than my other phone which is a HTC TyTN II and it is about the same size as a N95. Does not make it small but it is a size that I can live with it considering that the alternative is to carry a phone AND a camera in my pocket, which I am sure will take up a lot more space! I rated this phone a 4/5 because it does have a few minor deficiencies. Nothing that would stop me from recommending the phone to someone else, but still worth noting. If you are taking a lot of pictures then there are two issues to be aware of. Firstly, the built in memory on the phone is only 160MB so you must buy a MicroSD card. Secondly, if you are using the xenon flash regularly during the course of each day, then you should consider carrying a second battery for emergencies. For the globetrotters amongst us, it should be pointed out that the phone is tri-band on 2G networks and does not support the 850GSM band. It does support HSDPA 2100 for 3G networks. From everyday use, the only area where I have found the phone to be lacking is that the ear piece volume is a bit low especially considering that the ringer volume is very loud. But this might just be a problem with my particular handset and not reflective on the model in general. Finally, simply to avoid an annoyance, I would suggest investing in a case (preferably one of those clear plastic cases that cover the entire phone) because once the fingerprints get on there, they are very hard to remove. The Samsung SGH-G800 is one phone that you will want to keep in pristine condition to do justice to the capabilities of this most outstanding camera phone!Read full review
I have been a Samsung fan for the past 3 years now and when the G800 was released in December 2007, I thought it was time to change my D600 ... which was, and, still is a great phone. So I picked up a brand new G800 on ebay and inserted my PAYG Sim in it and I have never looked back. The only worry I had about the G800 was the physical size but I soon got over this once I saw the features in it. It can be best summarised as: Pro's: + A great 5MP camera with 3X optical zoom, a xenon flash, auto focus, many scene programs, a front and rear lens and great video camcorder (plus video editor). + Brilliant sound quality from the MP3 player. (and ringtones etc) + Intergrated FM radio. + Keypad/buttons are easy to use but not the annoying touch sensitive buttons. + A tough, durable handset that is also v.shiny and classy looking! + 510 SMS memory. + Wallpaper can be changed to a series of animated photos (from 'My Photos') similar to a PowerPoint presentation. + Huge memory (esp. when external Micro SD memory card is fitted). + Lovely large screen + Very good software on CD-ROM thats easy to use. + Lovely white backlight to the keypad buttons. + My battery life lasts up to 3days CONS: - Some people may consider it too bulky/heavy (esp. women!) - The screen is prone to fingerprint marking as it is very shiny so needs a regular rub. - No games come on it. Overall, I am very happy with my G800 phone and would highly recommend it to all current Samsung and non-Samsung users! Pick one up now, you wont be disappointed! DamienRead full review
There are a few things to note about this phone before deciding to buy, I have bought this phone myself and so can give a personal view of it. In terms of features this phone is quite equipped with a not perfect camera but works perfectly well and takes good quality pictures. Customising the phone works well also with being able to personalise wallpapers, ringtones & message tones something i never had on my old phone and because the buttons are so not so tiny you can't touch without accessing a different function it is quite easy to handle also mainly due to the fact it doesn't have a touch screen pad. My only issues with this phone are that, and this is a personal opinion the phone is bigger than its modern rivals and many people want much thinner phones now, however i like this because it makes it harder to brake when its in your pocket or if its dropped. Another issue is the memory comes with around 150mb of memory built in which isn't a lot if you want to download or take a lot of pictures or store a long list of media files such as music/video clips but however it does have an expandable memory slot if you wish to buy an external memory card but with the one i bought a memory card came with the phone so this hasn't been an issue for me. Finally, this is i think is the main issue with this phone, is the sound volume which i believe could be a lot louder because i have had problems with hearing voice calls when going out, so i have had a lot of missed calls and to get round this i have tried to personalise it so it vibrates and play sound when someone calls which works if your standing still but when walking you may not still be able to hear or feel it vibrating so more missed calls could happen as a result. Overall i would recommend if you like new features which seem to come standard on a lot of new phones this phone will not let you down and if you care about camera quality this phone also perfectly acceptable and can be changed to match your settings and i like the way message tones can be personalised but i believe there are louder phones out there to buy and thinner phones that may or not have touch screen pads and also if you need a lot of memory as standard i wouldn't recommend this but if you buy one used it can work out a lot better value than buying one new with a phone retailer. As an added note, not everyone will have this problem but if you buy this phone used and are having difficulty in removing the battery cover to insert a sim card, i find using the palm of your hand can easily remove the cover without damaging the phone.Read full review
The G800 is a very attractive phone, with a smooth matalic finish it has the look and feel of the phone which is just what you'd expect from a samsung. The phone has the same flat panel-like buttons of the samsung D800, and it is alot bigger and chunkier than a usual samsung, but i feel that this hold a "retro" quality to it, that adds to its charm. This phone is tough, and built built to last. I have already dropped my phone since its purchase, and not on pertically soft or padded surfaces. This has done nothing to the phone, and dispite the knocks, is in full working order. The only downside of this phones design is that it can be perticually tricky to unhook the little peg that covers the phone charger socket. This is really too small to be done by hand, and i would suggest having either very tough and long nails, or using something like tweezers to carefully pick out. Aswell as this, there is no alternative to a choice of earphones other than the ones provided by samsung, because of the adaptor. With the earphones in question it means that listening to music on your phone has very poor quality, and if they break, it'll be more difficult to find a replacement. the layout and general interface of G800 is very pretty and uses its big colour screen to full advantage, making it a very attractive thing to play with. The games and extras on the phone (custom and exclusive to samsung) are similar to that of old samsungs phones, which if your used to the phone brand, can be a little disappointing. However with a first time user of a samsung, can be entertaining. The camera quality is excellent, with 5 mega pixels and really good zoom. It does however have a extended period of waiting when taking a photo, but if you have a steady hand the look of your photo considering that its a camera phone is second to none. Overall i feel that phone is a very good new release from samsung and well worth the money you pay for it.Read full review
as soon as you pick this phone up it has a quality feel about it.not flimsy and plastic like most they use steel on this one.of course this does mean a little extra weight and because it has a slide lens cover for the camera it is a little bulkier than other models but no worse than the Nokia n series.all the features in the phone are easy to navigate to and use with nice easy on the eye colours and themes.the music playback sounds fantastic.the internet connection is quick and easy to use.of course most people will buy this for the camera and they wont be disappointed.5mp and a 3x optical zoom with a good flash means great pictures.you will have to set up the camera to suit the situation though to get best results.the biggest disappointment about this phone is that it never came with a memory card.with cards being so cheap surely Samsung could afford to throw one in the boxRead full review
I got the G800 just before christmas. i was unsure between the G800 and U700, but plumped for the G800 because of the 5MP camera. Although the U700 is a lot lighter,i wanted a good camera, and i was not keen on the touch sensor buttons and menu wheel (its a bit like the wheel on an ipod, but is a bit quick) The G800 is quite a chunky phone but i dont mind this and was expecting a fair sized phone to hold all the features that it offers. The camera is good, but if you dont use the flash the photos can be quite blurry unless the image is REALLY still! and im still trying to get a decent night shot with the 'Xenon' flash that was supposed to be superb.(I dont know if its something i am yet to figure out!) but apart from that, i have got some great shots from the camera. The phone memory could have been more, but with the memory card back up, its ok. i really like the big screen and the video imaging is good and clear. And it has lots of great quirky additional features that are fun to have. (fun number formats when typing, and some good wallpaper options) i have downloaded lots of songs onto the phone and i think the playback quality is brilliant. Overall i am really pleased with my choice, at the end of the day the texts and call options are great, everthing else is a fun bonus! and its such a stylish phone!! Dont be suprised about the weight of this phone, you will get used to it. the last flimsy phone i had, snapped when i dropped it, so i personally feel more comfortable with a heavier phone. Buy it, its great!!Read full review
