Newly designed to match with the EOS-1D Mark III in terms of improved dust- and water-resistance, body strength, and the ability to control flash functions and settings from the camera menu (EOS-1D Mark III only). Horses for courses
You need to be sure this is what you need. In its hay day this was the top of the line Canon flash. That said it can still hold its own as a high end, high performance flash. Think about how you are going to use it. I bought it as a "master" flash for my EOS1 mkiii so I can use my EZ430ii as a slave. While it will work outdoors, it's best used in a studio environment. If your thinking of attaching the 580EXII to your EOS80 and using it outside for fill in flash, then yes sure it will do the job perfectly but its overkill. In the studio as a master flash controlling groups of slave flash(es) it will come into its own and is where it will perform best. In short, be sure you need one. If most of your work is out side when all you need is a fill-in flash there are cheaper models available and you would not need all the bells and whistles of the 580EXIIVerified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

A great flash
A great Flash gun. I now have 3 for multi flash set ups. I have now found somthing Cheaper, not Canon that is compatible, So I might go for one of these. I love the 580EX though. Trouble is so do a lot of other people and thats keeping the price high. The flash has now been superceeded buy two that know of, although the 600EX retails for £600. Quality flash so easy to use.

Older model but still worth having
This model has been superseded by a new model, but if you can find one in good condition, it is well worth having. I have a cheaper flash, and it has served me well. After upgrading to a full frame camera (without the popup flash) I decided to purchase this flash. It links to the camera via TTL and works well and the batteries seem to last a lot longer then they do in my cheap flash.
