About this product

Product Information

This large aperture, super high image quality telephoto zoom lens provides performance comparable to that of a single focal length lens, with a wide zoom range. This lens is developed as a successor to the EF 80-200mm f/2.8L. Its major features include: a ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor) drive, built-in full-time manual focusing, short minimum focusing distance of 1.5m, high marginal illumination, and compatibility with Extenders EF1.4X and EF2X (extends the zoom range with AF to 98-280mm f/4 or 140-400mm f/5.6 respectively). Although this is a large aperture telephoto zoom lens, it is equipped with four low refraction/low dispersion UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass lens elements (2nd, 3rd, 11th & 13th) that offer excellent contrast and sharpness. This is a lens that deserves to be known as a super high performance telephoto zoom lens.

  • 2.8 is version 2

Been in to photography for several years now and always had 400mm and 600mm l lenses along with 24-70mm for landscapes so this is a great add on to cover me for the 70 - 400 gap I had for wildlife. Great quality lens possibly the best out of all of them. Great auto focus and super sharp lens.

  • Excellent lens - photographers dream

Excellent lens with pin sharp images and fantastic bokeh. Pros: Great all rounder for portraits, sports, street scenes, etc. Cons: Pretty weighty when hung round your neck (but worth it for the results!) Would recommend for anyone seeking an excellent lens in this focal range

  • Fantastic lens!

Last year i asked my professional photographer friend if he could let me use a telephoto lens that was longer and better than my Canon EF-S 18-135mm STM to photograph my boy's high school soccer games. So, he introduced me to the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 (non-IS). Wow what a difference this lens makes! My photographer friend uses his lens mostly for weddings but told me that it's an excellent lens for sports. I am very glad to have saved for an entire year to get this lens.

  • Great lens

A great lens from Canon, the images are sharp right to the edges even when the aperture is wide open, it deals very well with low light situations, Colours are always well rendered. I really can’t see how the second generation of this lens could make much of an improvement on image quality. Even without image stabilisation this is a quality piece of glass.

  • Professional Quality Images

The best lens in my bag. Perfect picture quality for both low light and high speed photography. The autofocus is spot on every time. It's a weighty lens but balances well and gives the photographer a great sense of control.

  • Canon EF 70 - 200mm lens

This is a superb lens that works really well with my Canon 5D Mk iii. A pro-level lens that has created excellent images.

  • The Modern Classic

As far as fast glass is concerned this was once the absolute grail of most photographer’s kit bags and there’s a good reason. The build quality is amazing, the images sharp, the focusing fast and the casing is durable, compact and displays quality in every facet of its construction. This isn’t the image stabilising version (G2) but that’s not really an issue - it’s f/2.8 all the way and if you have a decent up to date body then ISO rating above 1600 will usually yield pretty good results whilst allowing for 1/200sec shutter speeds during performance or low light sports, etc. Absolutely thrilled with my purchase and know anyone who owns one of these will be too!

  • Excellent Canon 70-200 L F2.8 IS USM lens

Canon 70-200 L F2.8 IS USM Had this lens a little over a week now and am over the moon with it. apart from being a little heavy to lug around, it more than makes up for it in performance. The quality of the images are outstanding. The wide 2.8 maximum aperture really allows the light in at full zoom. 200mm. And the image stabiliser really gives sharp images when hand held. Love it.

  • Faultless lens but your buying the name

Ok as stated in the title the name "Canon" is what catches people before the capability of the lenses they sell, there are cheaper more affordable lenses out there but it is the name that cost the extra ££££'s. The lens itself I can not fault despite being 2nd hand I can not find any major flaws with it and it's speed and response is extremely good. I used it at the Scottish international Airshow held in Ayr on a cold wet (torrential rain) soaked day. The camera and lens worked flawlessly and took a soaking from the worst a Scottish summer can throw at it and both survived the experience. Some real fast acrobatics by stunt planes and screaming fast jets F-16 and eurofighter (RAF typhoon) and the EAF display team (red arrows) couldn't catch the fast responsiveness of this less. Would I recommend it yes 100%, would I say there are better cheaper lenses out there yes probably, but if like me your after a lens with a proven track record then unfortunately you need to dig deep (even 2nd hand) and pay the premium for the "canon" name. You won't be disappointed if a little poorer.

  • F/2.8 OR F/4

Never felt the need for IS lens Well made quick silent focus but honesty counts i think the F/4 is sharper in my opinion
