Good to see Burt Reynolds playing the super star and hamming it up. The rest of the supporting cast were straight faced to his panderings, as the show must go on. It will be on stage at our local theatre soon.

In this movie Burt Reynolds plays Jefferson Steel, an ageing Hollywood action hero. In a desperate attempt to find him work his agent finds (as he thinks) a splendid role - to play King Lear at Stratford-on-Avon. When Steel arrives, however, he discovers that instead of the Royal Shakespeare Company he is to work with an amateur dramatic group in a village called Stratford St. John. You may find it funny (I didn't) and there is an inordinate amount of swearing. Not my scene, but it may be yours.
I bought the DVD as I had recently seen the film and found it to be very funny. Having friends and family around at different time I thought it would be fun to show the film. I found the DVD to be very inexpensive and well worth the price I paid.
An exceptional movie - thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end...so much so that I watched it twice in one night. Simply couldn't help it! Genius casting and delightfully clever scripting mean this is a real treat - each role played to perfection! Funny, charming, moving - I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for more than CGI and 3D hype to please them.
Great way to spend an evening..great cast and fun story, just one of those typical british movie that we do so well.Imelda Staunton is a joy as usual and is supported by our best talent along with Burt Reynolds as the reluctant star of King Lear. All in all a great little film
