GREAT BRITISH THRILLER THE PICTURE QUALITY IS EXCELLENT WITH A GREAT CAST AND FOR ME A ENDING I DID NOT EXPECT. ALL IN ALL GREAT ENTERTAINMENT AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE.
The picture and sound quality is very good for an old film. The film is a classic it was just how I remembered it. The price was very reasonable and worth every penny.
Great title for a thriller about a daring, nailbiting robbery at an Army camp. Stanley Baker leads a three-man team who plan to plunder the safe in the paymaster's office at a camp which is in chaos because thousands of troops are about to be sent overseas. Baker, Tom Bell and Helmut Schmid are the crooks itching to get their hands on the soldiers' pay. The film's original story was written by Nicolas Roeg, later to become a top cameraman and cult director. The supporting cast includes Patrick Magee, Rodney Bewes and Fulton Mackay.
One of the many black and white films that evoke such nostalgia in the over 55s. This copy is excellent. Film only with no 'extras' such as interviews, but well worth the money. Probably one of Stanley Baker's more interesting performances showing what ex-squaddies (in this case an officer), treated badly, could get up to with their inside knowledge of the confusion associated with war. Although this is set in the build-up to the Suez crisis in 1956, it could be any war - particularly one taking place in a hurry! Think Iraq. Absolutely realistic until perhaps the closing moments, where the action seems a little rushed, but a great commentary on the MoD's never-changing bodges and a way of life in the army that is fast disappearing. Love it. HG
