Some film remakes are superb. However, this is clearly a case of the original being simply - so much better- miles ahead of its American remake. Michael Caine demonstrates the art of how to be a complete and utter bastard when it comes to putting your own needs first. The back drop for the film are the empty (!) early morning streets and thoroughfares of London, a city which spills out onto busy markets and pubs. The use of the dogs to convey a meaning of empathy for the main character, together with the use of the Thames, to demonstrate the notion that we are all but 'flotsome and jetsome' on the river of life, was great. Mind you, if you don't want to get this bleedin' heavy, you can always just sit back and enjoy the punch up in the boozer ....a great British tradition which is still as alive and well today, as it was when the film was shot in the 1960's!!!! This is a film not to be missed.Read full review

Hadn't seen ' Alfie ' in years so I purchased the DVD for an amazingly low price , and it wasn't second hand , still in cellophane wrapper. Wonderful acting , just what you would expect from the perfectly cast bunch of Brits.

I haven’t seen this film since I was in my twenties n it’s just as good a film now and as entertaining as it was then ! The way he treated women was terrible ! It was nice when he got replaced by a younger man ! I’d still recommend this film today ! Great Viewing
