Alone in the dark stars Christian Slater and Tara Reid, two very well known actors who have both done very big films. The film is based on the videogame series Alone in the dark. I bought this movie due to the fact i own one of the games. The movie does not stick to any of the story lines from the games, it writes its own new story with characters and monsters from the game. The monsters in the movie look very good but unfortunately do not feature in the movie enough. There is a few scary points in the movie that will make you jump, but apart from this the movie is very dull and boring with a similarily dull storyline. The acting in the movie is also terrible, i did not think they could act this bad! One thing i do like about this movie is his gun which he uses in the game also, unfortunately they do not have many flashlight scenes, which is the main concept for the games, in which you would see Edward Carnaby (Edward Cornbeef as i call him) wondering around scary corridors with just a gun and a flashlight. If they had more scenes like this it may have been a more exciting movie to watch. I have rated it poor due to the terrible acting, poor storyline etc.Read full review
Basic Plot: Based on the video game, Alone in the Dark focuses on Edward Carnby, a detective of the paranormal, who slowly unravels a mysterious events with deadly results. Quotes:[first lines] Prof. Lionel Hudgens: [narrating] In 1967, mine workers discovered the first remnants of a long lost Native American civilization - The Abkani. The Abkani believed that there are two worlds on this planet, a world of light and a world of darkness. 10,000 years ago the Abkani opened a gate between these worlds... What i say: Can it ever be said that there are some movies that have no redeeming features whatsoever? Answer: Yes, and this is one of them. After helming the appalling 'House of the Dead' director Uwe Boll has now cast his less-than-talented eye towards yet another video game adaptation. The acting here is, at best, sub-standard. The set design and special effects are poor. Unlike the video game (which did have its scary moments) the movie has no atmosphere of impending doom, no sense of danger or menace. Pacing and plotting is confused at best. The main culprit is the director. Uwe Boll uses the camera with the grace and skill of a monkey using a paintbrush. Hackneyed zooms, swoops and pans are spliced into the whole dreary affair at unpredictable moments leaving the audience disorientated and bored. Why this guy was ever let near a movie set in the first place must stand as one of modern cinemas greatest secrets. Avoid at all costs.Read full review
I've seen many reviews where they say that they saw the film and as it was so good, when the game came out they had to get it. Well in this case the opposite happened to me. Quite a few years ago I had a Playstation game with the same name and enjoyed it so much that when I saw this film I had to get it. I'm afraid to say that in my opinion this film is the biggest load of C*** that I've seen in many years. What makes matters worse that while I was waiting for it to come I also bought "Alone In THe Dark 2", that was actually slightly better, but in no way will it be in my collection for long. If you collect rubbish films (and I believe there are people out there that do) this one may suit you down to the ground. DO NOT BUY. Regards Andy
