Put simply this is the authoritative work on alpine flowers of europe, no other book comes close. It is also the only book that I've found that has references to the pyrenees, pointing out differences between flowers in the alps & their pyrenean counterparts. Sadly this book is no longer in print in english, but the man in the bookshop in Bagneres (at the foot of the Tourmalet, Haut Pyrenees) said this is the book that everyone who knows, (or perhaps who doesn't know & wants to find out!) uses." The English are the best when it comes to writing these types of books, because they have a history of going out into the world, collecting & cataloguing flora & fauna". Normal paperback size make it easy to carry & it is set out to make the identification of unknown flowers quick & easy. Interestingly it is still in print in French.Read full review
