A fascinating story of an ordinary girl from Wales who wanted to be a nurse and to travel. She had a difficult childhood with an unpleasant stepmother but came through that determined to lead the life she wanted. She worked in Vietnam during the war there and in many other places over her career, such as refugee camps. I bought the book because I heard she had been a very interesting speaker at a large WI meeting last year. She's now coming to speak to our group early next year and having read the book I'm pleased we booked her. My husband is currently immersed in the book and says he "can't put it down."

A brilliant book that takes you right to the action and having travelled to some of the countries mentioned I felt I was there with the Nurse. Well written, often humorous and very moving.

This book was so good it was hard to put it down! The author tells her life story in a unique way, by the end of the book I felt like I knew her personally! Anne Watts is a truly remarkable woman, who sacrificed many years of her life in looking after sick, injured and traumatised human beings, often in war torn countries where she put her own safety at risk many times.
