A very real account of a modern war setting. It’s sad humans can’t simply live peacefully and be allowed to live their lives they way they conclude is best for their own particular circumstances. Respect for everyone regardless of their views is this not a fair way to live? Unfortunately war seems to be some side trying to impose their will.

I bought this book to get an insight into the latest Afghan War. Other books I had read on the subject just seem to quote unit numbmers and commanders. Doug Beattie's account is personal and concentrates on his experiences at the locations in which he served. He also covers the interaction between the Afghan Army, Police and British Forces very well. Much the best book I have read on the subject and written by a remarkably brave man
An honestly told recollection of an extraordinary two weeks in Afghanistan. Every word rings true.
