I liked Ancillary Justice, the first book, a lot; It put imaginative new ideas in a credible but different universe, which is what one wants in SF. The technology was good and so was the human side. I usually don't like women authors (!) but Ann Leckie got it right for me. Ancillary Sword as the followup just simply didn't have the action or plot to keep my interest although I read it through, having bought it. Admittedly, it's difficult to do a sequel because one already knows the general framework and main characters. Within that however, one wants a new compelling plot, some good action and strong characters. Unhappily they aren't there. I understand that there's a third book in the sequence but I won't be buying it.
