I have never seen anything quite like this little barbeque before. It works by burning a remarkably small amount of charcoal in a small metal basket in the centre of a stainless steel bowl. Air is pumped up into the basket from below, using a tiny battery powered fan. This makes the charcoal heat up very quickly indeed and the BBQ is ready for cooking in 5-10 mins. Then you can control the temperature on the cast iron cooking plate by adjusting the speed of the fan, using a rotary control. This works really well so, unlike many other barbeques, it is possible to cook food slowly on a gentle heat. Speeding the fan up raises the temperature in about 20-30 seconds. The design of the cooking plate stops meat juices dripping down into the basket, so there is hardly any smoke at all whilst cooking. Best of all, the outer (white) wall of the barbeque stays cool during cooking, significantly reducing the risk of burns. Cleaning up is easy - the stainless bowl just wipes and rinses clean. The cooking plate might need a soak to soften any food deposits, but it isn't non stick, so you can scrub with a wire brush if needs be, without causing any damage. Usually though, it too rinses off quite easily after just 10 mins under water. The whole unit comes with a neat carrying case, so it is very easy to take it with you on a picnic or to have a tasty barbie on the beach. Recommend.Read full review

Pros: light and portable. Cooks well and for an hour or so whilst using very little charcoal Cons: took 3 lots of lighter gel applications to get the charcoal fully lit and initially it would only catch on one side. It was a slightly windy day and nothing cooked until we brought it under cover, so avoid using in the wind. Really only usuable for 4 people maximum

It broadly does what it says on the tin but not quite to the level of excellence the marketing spiel implies. First the idea that the fan is variable in micro adjustments is a nonsense. The dial is only useful in the last tenth of the rotation where it turns abruptly from completely off to completely on. No variability whatsoever. A ridiculous omission caused by poor craftsmanship which should have been addressed before it was marketed. Secondly it is not as easy to clean as supposed. Probably alright if you have a large dishwasher, which l don’t. But everything sticks to the grill and burns onto the bowl which is, remarkably, undetatchable. My top tip is to add water to the bowl before the fire dies down, to help it steam off. The burn itself is good: very efficient and economical and overall, less messy than a conventional bbq. Don’t expect it to be smokeless. It isn’t and this is perhaps it’s most deceptive claim. It will smoke to begin with for 5-10 mins and will inevitably smoke anyway from food burning in the grill. You cannot bbq without any smoke, even if the grill itself creates very little. Not bad but overpriced at £60, and l believe it retails much higher than that. You’re paying for the idea and a level of convenience and efficiency which exceeds the conventional portable bbq. You’re not paying for craftsmanship. It’s rather cheaply made.Read full review

What a great bit of kit. This was ready to cook on in just over 5 mins. Cool to touch so ideal on a table top or a picnic. Definitely would recommend. Tip. Only use a very small amount of lighter gel otherwise it's difficult to get the charcoal lit.
