For anyone, who was not arround in 1940, like me this is a good film that explains what it was really like in these dark days at the beginning of the 2nd world war. These people were real and these events happened. There is no glossing over the reality that war is an ugly event and people get killed and injured, this is shown in graphic detail. A film not for the faint hearted.

I actually bought this thinking it was the 2017 version but was pleasantly surprised with this version being a BBC 3 part docudrama. Very well produced and very informative, but it should be made clear that it is not the feature film. I have since bought the 2017 feature film and also have the original 1958 John Mills version.

In my opinion far superior to the the recent Film 'Dunkirk' which I thought was far overrated. The BBC Drama/Doc. was far more wide ranging, dealing with the retreat, the casualties, and the rescuing of the French Troops.

Very informative and realistic scenes. Scary first program very hard hitting, makes you feel for the soldiers. Your drawn in by each part and wonder how you would have coped. The shear nieve bravery of the people on those little boats is something to be amazed by.

This is a three part docu-drama that recreates one of the most dramatic moments in British history when a victory has truely grabbed from the jaws of defeat. The BBC show the British people, from all walks of life, pulling together and defying all the odds to rescue our troops from certain destruction at the hands of the Germans. The scale of the disaster, the terror that the people involved went through and the pace at which the whole event evolved is superby retold.
