You can't really fault the Huawei but you most certainly can do better with a combined modem & router. These are ideal backup for your existing modem but if you actually want better performance then look to the new BT Smart hub, the Draytek 2860, Netgear Nighthawk ( and other routers with build in modems ) that offer better performance. I replaced my Huwaei/Netgear combination with a Draytek and my ping fell by 15ms. That's a huge difference if you play online games.

Given the simple instructions on the Kitz website it is simple to change the firmware to the Unlocked one (without having to pay anyone else to do it for you) and then you can monitor the modem's stats in real time. You are in control of when the modem updates and reboots. Just remember it only has a 10/100 network card inside so don't expect superfast speeds if you upgrade your connection but for Rural Broadband users struggling to reach the USO, it is an effective piece of kit. I have paired mine with an Asus AC87U router and the modem performs flawlessly.
