Next January 16th, 2013 sees the 75th Anniversary of this ground breaking concert and I am preparing a commemorative recital for two (and counting) big band appreciation societies. I have an original pressing of the double 12" Lp (not released until 1950) but find it more convenient to use modern CDs to make the recital disc. The Jasmine version is, on balance, arguably the best of these, but Goodman's clarinet is quite recessed on some tracks so I am also using the AVID and (original) Columbia versions on a mix and match basis (I hope very much that Mike Dutton of Vocalion manages to produce a version as his CDs are just superb). Meantime the Jasmine is the version I buy as a gift for friends, and I thoroughly recommend it to anybody who is interested in Big Band swing (and as a great intro to the music).Read full review
