Positives Genuinely the best image quality anywhere near this price point at the moment, I've owned the GH4-A7S and canon c100 and the image from this is phenomenal, the 13 stops of dynamic range and 10 bit image mean you can tweak the look without losing quality. It's surprisingly small but the pro results codes and focus peaking means it's well stocked, for those worried about the file sizes prores proxy let's you record 2 and a half hours worth of footage on a 64 gig sd card. Footage is also a dream to edit in final cut as it is already formatted to prores. Drawbacks Battery life is absolutely dreadful so sort an alternative means of powering this beast, there are many other ways. Screen is awful outside, genuinely unusable in sunlight, a clip on viewfinder is highly recommended (or bung a jacket over your head. In camera sound pre amps are crap, this isn't an ideal all in one documentary solution that's for sure, though there are levels to see on the screen which are handy. There are better cameras out there for run and gun shooting, low light capabilities and battery life, but if it's cinematic quality on a budget this is the only choice.Read full review

This looks like a small 'point and shoot' camera, but is actually a very high end piece of kit. Along with the high specs there is a price to pay in that it isn't a camera that you can just use casually. You do need to master a whole new photographic language and the best results are achieved 'in post' though the process of 'grading' the raw images. So a steep learning curve, but not impossibly complex

This is an ideal B cam if you have a BMCC.

Although I have given the BMPCC a 5/5 I am doing so purely out of respect for what amounts to an amazing cinematic like quality and for ease of use. However, I was a little mean with the battery life because this camera draws on power like it wants to eat the national grid. The only route to solve this is to increase battery capacity from 800ma to 15,000ma with an addon pack. Other than that, everything is a joy. Although if you have fingers like the Hulk then forget this little toy because you need to have the fingers of a fairy to operate the tiny controls (well it did say POCKET) Camera so its ideal for Polly Pocket females. Other than all this drivel, this is a light, stick-it-in-your-pocket solution that you can put in there, forget about, and then pull out and make some pictorial standance with. Fun. Smart. Designer. And all for under £500? Quite amazing, really.Read full review
