If you are used to a DSLR, and are now changing to the mirror less like the Canon EOS M3 so you have less weight to lug around with you, then this is an essential accessory. Why a viewfinder was not included on the camera I don't know but this makes all the difference to your photography. Making for easier depth of field viewing, and easy to see in bright sunlight this really is a good bit of kit. All the data you see on the screen shows on the EVF. I find it easier and clearer than on the screen. Another plus is holding the camera in the natural position as you take a photo helps to take a steady picture as the camera is held much more firmly. Another plus is what you see is what you get so you know what is included in our shot. The EVF senses when you are near and turns off the live view, then switches that back on again when you take your eyes away from it. Granted this is an expensive bit of kit, and I had to think hard if to get it or not. But having taken the decision, and having now had a day out using this EVF I find it invaluable. Enough to decide to keep it on the camera all the time. The only downside is it uses the external flash socket but as I am not likely to use an external flash while out, and that my pop up flash works well for fill in pictures, that should not be a problem. I now have a great mirror less camera that I can travel light with and take great pictures with.Read full review

This viewfinder is very nicely made and compliments my Canon G1X mkI II If you take a lot of photos in bright conditions or even some sports type photos I’d highly recommend this viewfinder. The only negative would be it’s quite expensive and combined with the cost of the camera it takes it into DSLR territory

This adds an eye-level viewfinder to a range of Canon Cameras, including my EOS M3. It is not cheap but well worth it. In my opinion it is superior to the later and more expensive DC2 model. This DC1 can be tilted to any angle from horizontal (normal viewfinder view) to vertical (ideal for close-up photography). It is crystal clear and brighter that an optical viewfinder (the viewfinder is a small monitor). You can adjust the diopter control if you wear spectacles. This is by a small wheel under the eyepiece. When you put your eye to the viewfinder, the rear screen switches off and the same view is switched to the viewfinder. A button on the side can be used to switch between the display It slides into the camera hot shoe. You have to remove the plastic keeper from the camera hot shoe and from the DC1 base. You press a button to release it for removal. The only annoyance is that when it is fitted to the hot shoe, you cannot fit a flashgun. Read full review

This is a very good well made viewfinder from Canon. I brought it to use on my Canon G3X which has no viewfinder,( a big over sight from Canon) It complements the G3X buy showing all on screen information in the viewfinder.

fantastic electronic viewfinder so much clearer and easy to use and you can change the angle too better than any built in camera viewfinder just a shame the canon eos M3 didn't come with it
