I don't khow why but I love it! I've seen this movie more than 20 time in 10 years.Love the leading stars and its plot.I have it in VHS,VCD and now DVD format.Lovely comedy romance movie,Sure!!!
I first saw this film a few months ago when it was placed in a late night slot on BBC1. Goodness knows why, from the first moment its quirky and funny. The premise of the story is our two main characters Ryan and Jennifer. They meet as teenagers and Jennifer engages in a rather unusual form of small talk - mainly the menstraul cycle! Later they meet at high school and once again in College. This is where the chemistry begins to take off as we see them both growing up. Ryan moves away from his 'dorky image' while Jennifer shows that she wants commitment for once but is still scared of it. Along the way Ryan's roomate and Jennifer's roomate carry off some quite funny scene's - in his case compulsively lying about everything, in her case the car crash of emotions that is her life. As a rule i dont usually admit to being a fan of 'chick flicks' as one of my friends so eloquently calls it! But in this case i will gladly admit to it. The film was great to watch the first time and now i've got it on DVD. As the other reviews continue to say it remains true to life. If you've ever had a best friend of the opposite sex then you can relate to parts of this film if not all of it. Ryan hiding behind Jennifer, because he likes her at this point. Or perhaps fears going into a completely new relationship compared with his safe one with Jennifer, his 'girlfriend substitute'. As human beings sometimes we like to cling to whats familiar. Jennifer chasing after love, shying away from it and finally willing to follow her own philosophy of taking a chance. The scene near the end where she pushes him away after getting to close and he says how much she has hurt him is trully heart wrenching. If anything the film advocates this idea of taking a chance and not letting things slip beyond the point of no return. Its got points in it that all viewers will relate to at some point in their life. The part where she admits she needs him is where viewers should take note, dont let something go by you because your scared. Sit back and enjoy - and if your truelly honest you'll best just as happy to see Jennifer and Ryan get together as i was :-).Read full review
i saw this film for the first time last nite, and what can i say i loved it. Im a real sucker for these romantic comedy chick flicks, and this one was a classic which made me consider my own relationships, and how complicated relationships can be. Freddie Prinze Jr and Claire Forlani, seemed to have great on screen chemistry, which allowed you to understand the turmoil the characters were going through, and relate it to everyday life. In short i loved this film so much, that ive now ordered it, and cant wait to watch it again. if only there were more good honest romantic comedies out there, instead of the run of the mill pap we receive from this genre.
Chick Flick Yeah!! But a good Light watch Funny Serious when it needs to be. I dont normally watch Chick Flicks but this is an exception... Recommended
