The character of Liz Carlye is well and it is worth reading the books in order but it is not essential as Stella fills in enough background on Liz Carlye so that you can enjoy this as a stand alone novel. So many writer these days don't give enough of the back story because they presume that you have read them all in order. The story is bang up todate dealing with events that have happened or could very well have happened only we don't know abot them. it is therefore very believable and I think gives a very credible insight into the world of MI5 and MI6 which is just what you would expect from Stella Rimington given her background. She writes about spies and their day to day work which makes it a most enjoyable read. Well constructed plot and characters. James Bond this is not. This is the real deal. Once you have read one you will want to read the rest.Espionage is going on all around you, quite possibly in your city or even your street. This is a very believable story.Read full review

Love Stella Rimmingtons books. As a former Director General of MI5 one would think the stories are fairly accurate.
