The on off switch is incorporated at top of handle so less likely to break. The colour coding shows when the kettle is hot a great safety feature. If kettle is removed whilst heating it continues to boil when replaced on the pad - very useful if you want a little water to warm the pot!

This kettle is great apart from where the on/off switch is located. The switch is located at the top of the handle, immediately behind the open lid switch. I did not notice this when I was purchasing the kettle.....it is a very bad design because when you press the button to open the lid you also catch the on/off switch. Every other electric kettle has had the on/off switch located at the bottom, which is where I prefer it to be located. I have given only 3* because of this design flaw.............surely the on/off switch could have been located somewhere better.

Our previous kettle with blue and red LEDs (from a different manufacturer) unexpectedly failed, so we looked for a new one with the same features. The old one just had blue to show that it was switched on, which turned to red when it boiled. This one also has blue and red LEDs but it is slightly more technical: it is blue when first switched on, gradually changing to red as it gets near to boiling, and is a lovely shade of purple just before it boils, so you can switch it off when the water is very hot if you recognise the 'right' shade of purple! This isn't mentioned on any of the documentation. The red light stays on while the water remains hot, which is useful.. but sadly it doesn't go back to purple as it cools. However, it doesn't feel as robust as our previous kettle; I'm not expecting it to last very long. And - the 'windows' to show the water level are made from translucent but NOT transparent plastic, so it's difficult to fill to the correct level, and I find that I'm overfilling it quite often, even when I check carefully. Hence only 4 stars - it doesn't feel durable, and the windows aren't good. But it is fun to watch the colours change! Update - the windows leaked in May 2023 so it has been retired for recycling.Read full review

This is my second Breville kettle, the last one is still working after four years but has just started to leak a little bit hence the new one. Both seem to be made to a high standard of quility and construction. This new kettle looks great, boils quickly and the colour changing temperature idea is great, as it says in manual it takes as much energy to reboil the kettle as switching on a low wattage bulb for one hour. As I drink a lot of tea I get at least 2 cups without reboiling!! I have only had this kettle for a few weeks but if it lasts as long as my old one I will be very happy.

I love this kettle, as long as it stays red I don’t reboil, every little bit you save helps!!!
