I was always sceptical that copying from negatives would be as good as using a shop, but faced with dozens of missing prints from 30 years of photos I took this as the affordable route. As expected, the quality is really not great and the colours are all over the place, though you can tweak this a little on a PC. This machine is best used as a way to see your negatives as prints, but not to copy them. I'd recommend using it to choose which prints you really want, then paying a high street retailer to do them properly; if they come out poorly you can discuss that with the shop and make sure they process the film properly, but this gadget is not suitable. If you are digitising a large collection then save the cost of this and put it towards a fund to get it done right! Oh, and if it's the ability to copy prints that you want, you'll get a better result taking careful photos on a decent digital camera and having those printed, possibly even on-line ( though I've not tried this yet). Those reviewers who rave about this must have some pretty low-quality originals, and expectations, to start with!Read full review
