This was not marked up as mk2 but believe was a late mk1 and was same as mk2 Very good walkabout lens.... used at wedding for out takes... Sharp enough... on apsc sensors multiply by X1. 6 for accurate focal lengths.... Have not done precise optical test for sweet spot.. would be approx 2 stops down from max aperture probably mid range say 50-60mm buy it and enjoy ### PS have created excellent bokeh at105mm too .....

To skip bla-bla-bla about this lens, just wona say that i bought it to replace my kit lens EF-S 18-55. So compare to kit lens its better for sure: - more powerfull zoom - 105 instead 55 - not so wide as kit - 18, but stil enough - 28 to shoot in close space - F number is one step lighter at 108, than on kit lens at 55 - 108 has f4.5 while 55 got f5.6. - and finaly the USM, that allows full time manual focus in autofocus mode. It a little bit heavyer than to kit lens, but still ok to use and carry as yor main lens. Of course its not a best lens that you can buy, but i guess there is no disadvantage in this lens, at least i dont see any. So if you are not willing to spend more than 100-130EUR - buy it! Cheers!
I am new to digital cameras so i am looking at it from a perspective of a newbie. I looked at other makes of lens for the camera and they did not get the same good write up from the reviewers.

I had read the reviews on these lenses which were really spot on. I bought this one because it had the "Made in Japan" printed on the lens and has the seven blade aperture. For the cost, the build quality is excellent and the quality and clarity of the photographs I have taken, far out performs several of my other lenses which cost me a lot more. My advice would be if you spot one, buy it as you certainly won't be disappointed. I cannot comment on the lenses made outside Japan or the same lens with only a 5 blade aperture, but the one I have hardly comes off the camera.
This lens has been very impressive, it produces very clean and sharp images, the usm motor makes focusing quite and very quick. Having used this on both a 5d3 and 7d the len works well on both. Excellent for travelling due to compact but solid build. Only slight down side is that the lens has a very short zoom range at f3.5 jumping quickly to f4+ from around 35/40mm. But on the whole an excellent value for money lens with near L series build quality and image quality. Recommend
