Early Dennis Potter TV adaptation. Well worth watching.

I bought this dvd mainly because I love the time period it had been based on. I've always loved the "marie-antoinette" type films where the men wear tights and wigs and the women wear waist-clinching corsets and crinolines underneath their skirts. However, this was a very big mistake. The picture quality was appalling. I felt like I was watching a home video.... very bad. The worst part was the repetition of parts and some scenes were neverending. I mean, who the hell produced this crap!!! By the end I couldn't stand Casanova's face nor his voice. Please buy with extreme caution, this is toxic stuff.
There are several DVD's available about the amorous adventures of the 18th century libertine. This is a fictional portrayal and although beautifully filmed in Venice with marvellous costumes, it bears little relevance to the original lethario's life. For serious students of the man, obtain the BBC version based upon Dennis Potter's script. This movie is an amusing romp through the bedrooms of the unscrupulous.
A superbly crafted drama with great camera work & often amusing dialogue plus the music of Vivaldi!!

Made in the time when it seems TV cared about quality over quantity. Finlay is amazing, and Potter was on top form.
