Don't worry no spoilers from me. Where do I start? For a long time Hollywood has had the lions share of the movie industry churning out numerous high budget, low quality films. However on the other side of the world in the far east for years the talented people of Japan, China and Thailand have been creating films that Hollywood can only wish to remake. For instance their predictable and dumbed up version of the heart stopping Ju-On aka The Grudge, also classics like The Ring Kairo aka Pulse and now even Takashi Miike's One Missed Call. Enough said. As I climb down from my soap box I take a deep breath to finish what I started. Casshern is a masterpiece of cinematic excellence. Words i do not use lightly. This truly believeable vision of the future has everything. Stunning visual effects, CGI used to it's full potential without becoming over powering, characters, good and bad I actually cared for and a story line that can't be predicted within the first 5 minutes. If you enjoyed the Matrix films then this will blow you away. A great way to pop your Asian film cherry, or add to your collection. Either way unmissable. Thank you for reading I hope this helps. Check back now and again as ill be writing more reviews. Yours truly, KesRead full review
A visually stunning film, containing sword fights, robots,action,sci-fi,guns, martial arts, ghosts and love interests.Quite a complex story, set in the future where cell regeneration means growing new bodies.A scientist's son becomes augmented when his father saves his life using an experimental new technique. He then goes on too battle giant robots who have kidnapped his dying mother. He is hailed as the prophesised Casshern, saviour of mankind. There is a lot more to the story than this with various subplots added concerning his girlfriend and the current rulers of the country.Reads like a Manga script and looks like the Matrix.
I enjoy good science fiction and so bid on 3 copies of this film before obtaining one at a good price. I can state that I found this a fine film and worth watching. The filming is professional and the war scenes fairly realistic. The story is obtuse and somewhat complex in alternating between significant mixed values and moralities. The robot armies at first appear deadly but later seem to lose their invulnerability a little too easily. All in all a good viewing.
One of the best features of this movie is the soundtrack... subtle, delicate but brilliant... lots of action a'la Matrix, if anything will challenge anyone with attention deficit issues.
a friend of mine pointed me towards this film got to say i didnt fully understand it but is a great live action romp did remind me of the matrix somewhat only a bit more raw the acting is first class and almost shakepearian in parts but i will warn you i does drag in places however overall a great film
