The chav stereotype, he argues, is used by governments as a convenient fig leaf to avoid genuine engagement with social and economic problems and to justify widening inequality. Essential reading if you wonder why society seems so F@@@@@ up.
This book is an ideology and sociology earthquake. It brilliantly explains how a new brutal class structure has emerged where the poor, the working classes and the socially vulnerable become demonized and made to pay for the affluent stratas of our society. It explains how the government and media are basing policy and producing abhorrent propaganda about sections of our society they cannot understand or comprehend.
