needed a good turntable that had a good review chose the PD1 very happy with the way it performs and the build is very good When first switched on it starts up in 33 mode so for a dj that plays 45 s all night long you have to get used to changing it to 45 on switch on A good deck would recomend to anyone who wants a reliable deck
It's a great turntable for the price! I had a technics 1200 in the states, and while it was amazing, I was quite surprised with the quality of the Citronic PD-1.
Bought as a replacement when my deck was mutilated by my uncle! very pleased with this deck, no complaints at all
I wanted a direct - drive turntable, but being disabled and on benefits, a Technics SL-1210 was DEFINITELY out of the question, so the hunt for a lower cost option began. So after a few days susssing out what was about, I took a shine to a 1210 lookalike: the Citronic PD-1. After a tense few hours, I had become the winning bidder (A mere £41 plus £8.50 ish postage!!) of a new PD-1. Being a bit of a vinyl nut I had heard of Citronic as a maker of disco/pro audio stuff, so I wasn't going in entirely with my eyes shut. A few days later, the deck turned up. JOY!! Well, not quite. Unfortunately, the lid had become damaged in transit, so my first job was to source a new lid which wasn't overly difficult. The deck came with a cartridge, but I had another one ready which was more akin to HI-FI use, and ordered a rubber slipmat to finish transformation from club scratcher to top of my separates stack. Switched on, and the blue lighting theme of the PD-1's strobe, quartz-lock and speed indicator came to life. Set the tonearm stylus pressure gauge to 2 Grams and hit the START/STOP button. The turntable got up to speed quickly, not as quickly as a 1210, but then I had saved around £450 on the price of a new 1210!! The strobe light indicated a steady speed hold at 33rpm. I lowered the cueing lever and the stylus gently settled on the record. The sound quality from this deck, considering the cartridge was only entry hi fi level was very surprising. Rich, rounded and the high end nicely clipped. No major disasters, just a nice, pleasing sound. A better cartridge and this baby will sing!! The deck does seem to run a bit slow at 45rpm, but with the pitch slider fully functioning this is a very minor matter. Overall, the sound quality is superb. The target light fully works, even though I can't see it being used too much, seeing as the deck is in my lounge and not a darkened club!! So in conclusion I'll say this. On Ebay I've seen this deck on Buy-It-Nows new from around £130 to £200 plus. I would say around halfway between the two would signal good value. It looks like a Technics 1210 at a glance, but obviously hasn't all the bells & whistles that its more expensive doppleganger has. But at the price I paid it is a steal, although I think I would've been happy had I paid three times more for it!! Solid and unspectacular. But steady.Read full review
The Citronic PD-1 is a very good budget direct drive turntable that is a good substitute for a technics deck if you cannot afford the latter. Comes from a well known manufacturer and has all the features of it's more expensive counterpart. I would definately recommend this product!
