I bought this when the death of Warren Clark was announced. I had liked the TV version of the books - most of which I have read - and especially liked Warren Clark as Dalziel, though I hadn't watched the later ones. I really enjoyed these early episodes, which were pretty true to the books, and will probably buy some others.
I bought this as I missed the first series on television. Great if you like Dalziel & Pascoe and wish to watch when you want not the television schedules
Warren Clarke at his best, ably supported by Colin Buchanan, with excellent screenplays by Alan Plater and Malcolm Bradbury, based on extremely well crafted novels by Reginald Hill. All the ingredients for a highly enjoyable tv detective series; and it doesn't disappoint. Although each episode features different cases, there is the thread of the private life of DI Pascoe (Buchanan) running through the series, and in the first, comprising three episodes, the scene is set. And it's always interesting to see the early appearances of characters, who are at the periphery, but as the episodes continue, warrant more space. If you've seen the later episodes, but for some reason missed out on these (as I had), what are you waiting for? You've a treat in store.
