Right im a hard nosed horror fan. I can tell the quality of a film by whether i fall asleep before the end, half way through or sitting bolt upright like i was with this likkle tale. Im not going to lie and say its a really scary film with a twisting turning plot line, but it made me jump twice over the silliest things which is a miricle for me! Ok some one dropping a torch might not scare you witless but in the right atmosphere it bloody will! This film plays on your childhood fears of the bogey man and the lies are parents forced into our brain regarding the tooth fairy (yes i cried when i found out there was no santa but i would have been relieved to find out this evil tooth fairy was pure imagination!) Basically when i child looses their last baby tooth an evil tooth fairy comes to spirit it away, no candles made out of these teeth! However -heres the catch- if the child whose tooth is being relocated to the depths of hell awakes and sees the tooth fairy (lets not call her that as its a slight to all the good tooth faires out there, ;the tooth demon;)the tooth demon will not resgt till the child or any one else that sees her whilst she is doing it is torn to pieces!! LOVELY. One such child gorws up unable to go into drakness for fear of said demon finishing the job she started which ended in his mothers death an his implication in said death. LET THE JOY ENSUE, when his child hood friends likkle brother finds himself in the same situation but stuck in a hospital being tested for his 'fear' of the dark (she can get you in the dark!). This is a rip roaring good un to settle down with and just enjoy your old fears being tickled!! Hey i ran from the loo to the bed and ensconced me self under the protection of me special magic mosquito net that repells all tooth demons instantly! Then i dreamt of the evil so and so!! ARGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH ---------This film would also be brill to be played to a child who is about to loose their last tooth or who has just lost it, and you want to do a bit of mental scaring!!!, Hey mental scars last longer than physical ones lol (only joking please dont send the NSPCC round, my kids are fed watered clothed and let out of the coal house at least once a week!)----------- TATTY BYERead full review
I watched Darkness Falls in the cinema in 2003. The opening sequence was a perfect start to the film until they brought the same idea to Wes Craven's They and the dreadful Boogyman. Darkness Falls has a variety of characters that we seem to forget being that the film is more focused on just three main characters. The film certainly has faults and cliches that it not far off from your typical teen horror film. I don't know why this has the certificate of a 15 as I'm sure many will agree with me that there is not much violence in this at all. In fact it could of used a bit more blood instead of just seeing the ghostly toothfairy just sweeping her victims away into darkness with the occasional dead body on the floor that doesn't count for it to be 'boody'. But if you can handle the fact that this isn't much of a violent film at all then all your left with is decent special visual effects and some tension showing the characters dealing with trying to stay in the light of the otherwise dark town which coincidently has a powercut of the same night that the toothfairy decides to attack. Unfortunately the only shocking twist at the end is showing her rotted face which is never shown through the whole film. All we see is the outline of her and rags dangling from her gown as she flies through the air. The reason I say it's unfortunate is that we see her face anyway on the front cover of the film so we're left with no surprises. The soundtrack is decent with some unknown but pretty good band artists. I really enjoyed the track played at the end credits of the movie. There are some good scare tactics but still predictable for those horror buffs out there. It is still entertaining never the less showing alot of chase scenes that is worth the purchase with again the effects as I have said are good for something like this. We don't get used to the characters that are not the main part of the film before they get murdered and sometimes I felt that some of them are just an excuse just to be taken away. This was much better in the cinema just like any horror film would be but just don't expect much scares and blood and just think that you will be getting some popcorn fun out of this. If you liked Boogeyman and They then you will love this.Read full review
