I have always loved Darlene Love's records since the great days of the Phil Spector sound. She never got the recognition she deserved apart from possibly "Christmas" from the Spector Christmas Album of 1963. Her other Spector cuts ranged from the fabulous to superlative and they included those under her own name, e.g."Wait 'til My Bobby Gets Home", "Today I Met The Boy I'm Gonna Marry", "Fine Fine Boy","Stumble and Fall", "Strange Kind of Love" etc ) and when she was disguised as the Crystals ("He's A Rebel","He's Sure the Boy I Love") and Bob B Soxx & the Blue Jeans ("Zip A Dee Doo Dah", "Why do Lovers...." etc). However, none of those are included here! This CD contains examples of her work with the Blossoms, just about the hardest working session group of the 60s and into the 70s, under other guises such as Moose & The Pellicans and the Wildcats,as well as some of her solo stuff. The latter include three glorious previously unreleased tracks, two of which have already become among my all time favourites - "So Much Love" (Blossoms)and "Let Him Walk Away" (Darlene Love). All 24 tracks merit a listen, many different styles from backing Rock 'n Roll icons Dick Dale ("King of the Surf Guitar") and Duane Eddy ("Boss Guitar") - although to be fair they duplicate tracks on other CDs - to her own latter day renditions of "All Alone on Christmas" (1993)from the film Home Alone 2,and her powerful version of Sam Cooke's "A Change is Gonna Come" (1998). The booklet enclosed with the CD is informative as to the background of Darlene as well as providing details of each track. Check out her performances on the Letterman Christmas Shows on U Tube! So if 'a change is gonna come', I hope it will be the recognition of her talent as one of the great voices of the last 50 years - so buy the CD and help spread the word!Read full review
