This is one of the best movies by Steve Martin

At the heart of it this film had really clever idea, using a collection of clips from film noir, style a comedy about a hard boiled detective. Unfortunatly while technicaly clever the script seems to have been written by an 8 year old.. the 'jokes' aren't funny, Steve Martin is miscast, and why Racheal Ward is in this is beyond me. Ms Ward did make a great Femme Fatale, but no one in Hollywood cast her in such a role again.. The DVD is about as standard as you could get, it will never be on blu ray or I imagine be reshown on terrestrial television ever again..This could have been something really clever..it isn't.

Well - almost anything that Steve Martin is in is good in my opinion apart from the soppy 'family' type ones that he made. This is a clever film in the way that it captures a 1940s atmos and 1940s film stars woven into the plot. Some good jokes too!

I bought this after watching The Jerk and Bowfinger, both of which I found hilariously funny. However, this film was disappointing IMO. Pretty silly and not at all engaging. Quite a bore. It made me appreciate The Jerk and Bowfinger more though!
